Spey Casting Made Easier Masterclass on the River Derwent, Cumbria 17 May and 18 May 2010.

Teaching Spey casting on the R Derwent
Go fishing in the Lake District of Cumbria

Spey casting instruction Cumbria. This is a unique and great opportunity to learn to Spey Cast or improve your fly fishing techniques with professional fly fishing instructor, writer and guide Ally Gowans, thanks to sponsorship by the Environment Agency and Go Fishing Lake District. Two three-hour classes will be held on May 17 and again on May 18, the morning classes are from 09:00 to 12:00 and afternoon sessions are from 14:00 to 17:00. Each class is for eight participants. You will learn how to make efficient casts, any type of Roll and Spey casting, Underhand and Skagit casts can be included because with assistance of fellow fly fishing instructor and fishery scientist Dr Andy Gowans the classes will be able to provide lots of individual attention to each person. You can also learn about salmon fishing techniques, tactics and receive information about the management, conservation and improvement of salmon and other fish stocks carried out in Cumbria by the Environment Agency.

The only real essentials that you will need are suitable outdoor and waterproof clothing and waders. Rods, and reels can be provided free for use during the course sessions provided they are requested a few days before the event. You are however best to learn with your own equipment because that instills confidence in what you are using. The classes will cover the use of different lines, floating, sinking, sink tips, shooting heads etc and you are encouraged to please ask to be taught or have demonstrated any tactic or technique using a two handed rod, or even a single handed outfit because every cast that can be achieved with two hands can also be done with one hand. If you have any special requirments, disabilities or requests to learn something in particular please let me know when booking.
